1. Fungal infection
Common causes are excess moisture and warmth.
Clients can prevent fungal infections by keeping their feet clean and dry and wearing breathable materials on their feet.
2. Discoloration
Bacterial infections. Other causes include malnutrition, smoking, injury to the nail bed and long-term health conditions including diabetes, and liver, lung, heart and kidney conditions.
3. Brittle nails
When nails are weak, peeling or splitting, they’re also known as brittle nails. There are two types: dry brittle and soft brittle.
Dry brittle nails are caused by a lack of moisture.

Soft brittle nails are the opposite – they’re caused by too much moisture.

4. Splitting nails
caused by excess exposure to water. wear and tear caused by overuse of the nails, and nail-biting.
=>Nail-hardening solutions may help prevent and restore split nails.
5. Thickened nails
Thickened nails is also known as onychauxis, or hypertrophy of the nail. Discoloration may occur, turning nails yellow or white (red or black if left untreated). Diabetes is another common cause.
6. Ingrown toenails
This is when the nail curves downwards and penetrates the skin. It causes pain and sometimes, infection.
